DemiMonde

Hi, I'm DemiMonde.  No, I don't have a wealthy lover, but I did choose my username for the demimonde type of characters I love like Becky Sharp of Thackeray's "Vanity Fair" or Scarlett O'Hara of "Gone With The Wind";  you can't help but root for them.  Not that I'm really that much of a feminist, but they are interesting examples of women of that time.  My photo is from a fascinating Southern belle who won admiration from Washington Irving and Edgar A. Poe, to name just a few.  You can learn about her here

I'm just trying to get back into writing again and the practice of it after having quite a few children.  I've always written for my own enjoyment but I've never pursued publishing.  I welcome critiques.  I am very rusty and it is a little frustrating.  Some of my hubs are research for a fictional book I hope to write one of these days; others are just subjects I'm interested in.

What I love about Hubpages is for the first time in a long time, I'm writing daily!  When a new subject occurs, I write down the title as an unpublished hub right away so I don't forget about it.

The short and sweet style of Hubpage's capsule form really encourages idea after idea of subjects.  I've not been at it long and I'm not doing this to make money, but I've been surprised to make some money.  Go here to find out how to begin writing about what you know and love on Hubpages.

I'm mostly interested in Gulf Coast culture, architecture, and history, whether it is in New Orleans, Louisiana, Mississippi Gulf Coast, Pensacola, Florida,  or Mobile, Alabama.  Many may not realize that these areas are tied together with a similar background that is different from the rest of the South, with a Latin twist.

My family has lived in the Mississippi Gulf Coast area since the early 1800's, crossing the Creek Indian nation with a passport from the Carolinas. Today, my family lives in Mobile, Alabama.  I would love to share a little Gulf Coast with you all.

"Down in Mobile, they're all crazy, because the Gulf Coast is the kingdom of monkeys, the land of clowns, ghosts and musicians, and Mobile is sweet lunacy's county seat."  Eugene Walter, author
